Preventative Dentistry
Preventative dentistry
includes regular checkups and regular cleanings as well as oral exams and periodic radiographs. We recommend standard checkups every six months to diagnose dental problems when they are small. For those patients that have periodontal problems, we advise checkups every three or four months.
Digital X-rays
X-ray images (also called radiographs) help the dentist find problems that may not be visible during a visual exam. X-rays can show small areas of decay in your teeth or under fillings and crowns, abscesses, some types of tumors, effects of trauma, and position of teeth that have not come in yet in children and/or adults.
Exams
Dental exam is the process where the dentist will look over your teeth and gums. X-rays aid in this process to diagnose any dental needs. Exams are recommended at least once a year or more depending on your dental needs and health.
Cleaning
A dental cleaning (as know as prophy) is the act of removing plaque, calculus, and stains above the gum line through polishing and the use of scaling instruments. If periodontal disease (gum disease) is present a different type of dental hygiene procedure will be needed.
Sealants
Sealants are a thin coating painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth, usually the back teeth (premolars and molars) to prevent decay. The sealant quickly bonds to the grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth.
